the count trap
The trap: two tins, same price, 33% apart
Pouch tins are not a standard size. The common counts are 15, 20 and 24, they sit side by side on the same shelf, and almost nothing on the packaging invites you to notice.
Put two tins at $5.40 next to each other. One holds 15 pouches, one holds 20. That is 36¢ a pouch against 27¢ a pouch — the 15-count is a third dearer, at an identical sticker price. Buy a five-can roll of each and the gap is real money for the same number of days.
The sticker price answers a question nobody has. Nobody uses a tin. People use pouches.
This is the entire reason this site divides. Every pouch on our pouch shelf carries its own per-pouch price, converted to one currency, so a 15-count and a 24-count can be ranked against each other honestly instead of by whichever number is printed larger.
reading the label
Strength is printed on two different scales
This one catches experienced users, not just new ones. A tin can state strength as milligrams per pouch or as milligrams per gram, and both are written as a bare number followed by “mg”.
A pouch weighing about 0.6 g labelled 16 mg/g holds roughly 9.6 mg of nicotine. Read as mg-per-pouch, 16 looks like more than double a 6 mg pouch. Read correctly, it is closer to fifty per cent more. Brands sold into Scandinavian markets more often use mg/g; brands sold into the US more often use mg per pouch.
If a listing gives a strength with no unit and no pouch weight, you cannot convert it, and neither can we. Treat the number as a rough class — low, mid, strong — and not as a measurement.
the pouch itself
Format matters more than the flavour list
The physical pouch decides most of the experience, and it is described in a small vocabulary worth knowing.
- Slim — the long, narrow default. Sits under the lip without being obvious.
- Mini — shorter and thinner, for a discreet fit, and usually less material, so a mini at the same stated mg/g carries less nicotine overall.
- All-white — bleached, non-staining fill. Now the norm rather than a feature, whatever the front of the tin says about it.
- Dry vs moist — moist pouches release faster and fade sooner; drier ones start slower and last longer. This, far more than the flavour name, is what people mean when they say a brand “hits” differently.
who makes them
Who actually makes the big four
The shelf looks like a wide field of independent brands. It is mostly four companies. ZYN belongs to Swedish Match, on! to Altria, VELO to BAT and Rogue to Turning Point Brands — and none of them sells to you directly, which is why they reach you through the shops we cover rather than from the manufacturer.
The practical consequence is that "which brand is cheapest" is usually the wrong question. The same brand, same strength, same count is stocked by several shops at genuinely different prices, and that spread is normally wider than the spread between brands.
what we will and will not rank
So what is "best" here?
Not a favourite. We own no stock and we have no reviewers, so a ranked list of our opinions would be decoration — and a decorated list is exactly what this kind of page usually is.
What we can rank, and do, is price per pouch: in stock, every variant, all converted to one currency before anything is compared. That number moves during the day as shops change prices, which is why it lives on the shelf rather than in a paragraph written once and dated 2026.
Pick your strength and format from the sections above. Then let the shelf tell you who is cheapest for that, today.

Shipping can undo the win. A per-pouch saving of a few cents does not survive a flat shipping fee on a single tin. The cart shows an estimated total per shop for this reason, and buying a roll rather than a can is usually what makes a cheap shop actually cheap.
The shops are not the same on age checks. Some run a real identity check before shipping, some only ask you to type a date of birth, and some do neither. Which one you are dealing with is on our vendor checks page, and next to that shop's button in the cart.
